Culture of Non-Communist China?

The victory or survival of Nationalist China often comes up here, but not much discussion seems to have taken place about the effects of the Cultural Revolution, etc.

In a non-Communist China of course, there would be no Maoist Cultural Revolution. Presumably traditionalism would reign (for a while) without such a shock, but I can't claim to be an expert on the subject.

What survives, and what declines within Chinese public life in such a case? Does this non-communist China incubate a similar media center like Bollywood, or have out-sized influence like Japanese film and animation?

Broad questions I don't have the answers to on my first cup of coffee.

The coastal region would probably look like pre-democracy Taiwan. The hinter region, maybe less literate and more superstitious..

Culturally speaking, Taiwan gives you a pretty good idea of China minus Communism. Certainly the place has its idiosyncrasies, but overall it's a fairly accurate picture.

I'd say look at the culture of Taiwan, throw in a little South Korea, and (esp. on the coast) just a dash of Hong Kong for some extra spice.
