Cultural WI: "Dirty Harry" films don't use the .44 Mag?

What it says on the tin.:p

Suppose Callahan says he's using a .41 Mag or .357 or .45LC. (Leaving off whether the film actually used the .44 M29, a .41 M29, or .45 M25, for the sake of their expedience...) Does this have any real cultural impact? Obviously, "most powerful handgun in the world" will be butterflied"...

Thoughts?

It could lead to them using a Model 57 in .41 magnum instead. Actually it has a number of advantages over .44 and .357 as it has more energy than the .357 and a flatter trajectory than .44.

.44 Mag guns and ammo are going to be a lot more expensive, since the gunshops won't be full of guns shot once then immediately sold.

The reason for going for the largest possible calibre is that some states limit magazine capacity. In that situation it makes more sense to go for the biggest practical calibre as if you have a limited number of rounds then it makes more sense to really make the bad guy hurt when you do hit him.

Hmmm.... .357
Later we get a female action heroine with 2 large guns and a small calibre one.
36-22-36 How could they pass up the chance?!
:)
