CSA... um... not sure what, really

The CSA never really had a meaningful chance of winning the Civil War once he USA got its act together. I'm just curious, what was the best result (from their point of view) that would have been reasonably plausible?

Well, they could do something similar to the Turtledove route, in which they annex a few parts of northern Mexico(and southern *Arizona and New Mexico, and perhaps even western Kentucky, besides), and, possibly, maybe even Cuba and Nicaragua as well, if they play enough cards right(filibustering would likely play a major role after the war.). Anything further than that, however, might require a different C.S.A. than the one we know(so, West Virginia and Missouri stay in the Union. and probably Indian Territory, as well).

Way too much. Max wouldn't sell and a war with Mexico along with the USA spells doom for the CSA. Arizona and NM were barely settled which means it will be a pure numbers and logistics game, which the Union will win every time. KY is barely possible but Cuba and Nicaragua are out as it didn't have a navy to speak of and Spain will sell Cuba some time after hell freezes over and not before.

Realistically we are talking all 11 CSA states including what will become WV OTL and possibly KY with MO being a long shot. After that you are pretty much into ASB territory or near enough.

Easy: Have the CSA form earlier.

Say these states secede in the 20s, 30s, or even over Kansas-Nebraska. It's entirely possible there will be no civil war, as A. They are almost as strong as the Northern States (at least more so than OTL) and B. People may consider it their choice to leave. The further you move back succession, the better for the CSA.

Ya expanding out into the Caribbean and Mexico is a no go. Plus there will be objections, as there were in the past when the USA considered it, that this would bring too many blacks into the union or in this case the confederation
