CSA expands north?

Instead of expanding South to Mexico, could the CSA expand to Kansas, Missouri, and the midwest?

My only guess is that the South would only expand south of St. Louis

Sorry, I meant that WI this could happen in the Civil War, or in TL-191s 2nd American War..

In a CSA wins the CivilWar scenario, Missouri is a very real possibility, together with all of the other border slave states which stayed in the Union. Kansas is very unlikely, as are most other farm belt Union states, because slavery is not likely to be adopted very well to these economies. I dobt the CSA would want to add any states which might come to favor emancipation (either locally or nationally). I suppose the possibility exists that a very victorious CSA might conquer former US states as occupied territories or colonies. In this case, one might imagine a wholesale spread of the CSA into the Mountain west and Pacific to take control of the gold (and later oil) deposits.

Well I should say specifically, is that could the CSA expands its borders to the Rio Grande, Arkansas, and Missouri River? (Specifically in the states of Colorado, Kansas, and Missouri)

Colorado isn't going confederate. Kansas is slightly more plausible, but is still not happening. Missouri might be a possible confederate gain; it is certanly the only one on that list that they have a realistic chance of gaining. My instincts tell me that the Union is going to hold Missouri, but it isn't unthinkable that it might be brought into the south.

I don't think the Confederacy could expand at all. Even if Lee managed to cut off Washington, D.C., the Union still outnumbered the Confederacy 2:1. The most they'd get out of it is their independence. The United States would then embargo the fledgling country, and the Confederate States would become a third-world agrarian society. It's a cliche of AH that the Confederacy will always somehow take Cuba and parts of Mexico. It seems pretty impossible to me.

I very much doubt the CSA can expand north at all even in the event of a victory during the ACW- hell, they'd very much be opposed in MO by the anti-slavery Jayhawkers, KY & MD would still be pretty well held by Union forces, aplus any CS expeditionary forces attempting to go into NE or CO would be cut off & defeated in detail a la Sibley's force at La Glorieta.

Hmmm, I doubt that even the Copperheads in the Old Northwest would really want to BECOME part of the Confederacy after the CW's actually OVER :)
