Crusades timeline

I started a TL about a successful seventh crusade. I am writing a new, more detailled version. Basically it'a about Saint Louis conquering Egypt and holding it with the help of the Ilkhanate. The Franks could establish a powerful crusader state in Egypt.

There is a general consensus on this site that the Crusades are doomed, which I think puts a bit of a brake on TLs. Personally I'm not convinced and think that the transits of Anatolia of the Crusade of 1101, 2nd and 3rd Crusades could have changed the demographics of the Crusaders states and given them a shot at longevity, but I'm not much of a TL writer so haven't written a story.

I think the Crusades were doomed after the fourth (who was ruined by the fact who the things started to go out-of-control justfrom the beginning) but the first three are a totally different thing: the first was highly succesful, while the not-so-good results of the second and the third (plus the loss of Jerusalemn) were mostly caused by internal conflicts between the leaders and some very bad strategical decisions and you can argue who the third crusade, while unable to retake Jerusalemn, was still much successful and consented the survival of the Crusade States
