Crusaders conquer Egypt

I'm not that well versed on the period, so I'll just throw this out there. How could this happen and what would the consequences be?

Crusade #5, the first attempt at Damietta had the best chance and might have done it. #7 might have had a better chance than #5, but when the Sultan died Baybars took over and of course, proved his superiority over the crusaders in the coming years. So perhaps if Baybars is killed #7 might be able to make significant progress.

Egypt

This has come up before. There are many problems. You have a very dense Muslim population combined with the Egyptian Christian population. Most of the Copts would not have liked being ruled by Roman Catholic Crusaders. The Venetians and even the Genoese would have demanded economic privileges especially if they had any role in the conquest.
