My challenge for you guys is creating an alternate history scenario in which the French Revolutionary Wars are avoided. Hence, the point of divergence is supposed to be around the 80s and 90s of the eighteenth century. Also, another condition is that France does expand, gaining the Rhineland and parts of the Southern Netherlands. Of course, Napoleon's rule and wars are butterflied away. Later, in the ninteenth century, a world war develops. You can choose yourself what the causes, long-term as well as short-term, are, as long as its plausible. Think of the progress of this World War I and if it might cause another World War too, like our world's World War II.
Write - if you choose to accept this challenge - a mini-timeline Roughly 300-1200 words, I would say.
Go ahead, show your creativity!
(By the way, for a POD you might want to think about the conflict between the Girondists and the Jacobins and also consider other factions like the Feuillants and Montagnards. Think about, and discuss, other hitorical events as well, such as things going on in the Americas, Africa and Asia. Will there be an American Civil War? Will there be changes in the end of the American Revolutionary War, which ended in 1783 but could be different with a POD in 1780 for example? And how about the decline of the Ottoman Empire and the many Russo-Turkish wars, or the Latin American wars of independence?)
