Cowboy Angels

Just read a book, Cowboy Angels about an ATL America that developed interdimensional travel. Follows some CIA antics across worlds.

Don't want to give spoilers. I was disappointed with some of it's slant, but what was a disappointement to me, would probably be a plus to most of you.;)

Still it dealt with the ideas of TLs and cross TLs politics quite seriously.

Worth reading.

By Paul J. McAuley.

I shall repeat what I said in an earlier thread about it:
I really enjoyed this book. It was fast paced and had some interesting alternate realities, and ideas on what the discovery of alternate realities would mean, socially and politically. I particularly liked the description of the boom towns that developed around the gates, with people and foods and Elvises from different realities intermixing.

And it's cheap on the Kindle!

If someone is considering it and wants to get a feel for the style and setting, here's a short story set in the same universe.
I really did enjoy the serious treatment of the alternate worlds, down to small changes like the feel of coins and the taste of Coke. It kind of reminded me of the book Alternities, with a more black-ops focus and without the unfortunate weird sex stuff Alternities had.

The very first Evil America TL we see, where a failed Butler coup in the Great Depression leads to the US apparently turning into North Korea, told me rather clearly - don't expect plausible AH scenarios. But it was a good read nonetheless.
