Could the Western allies have done better 1944

Is there any way that D-day could have been followed by more rapid successes for Western forces, such that by say October 1944 the facts on the ground look different when carve ups are agreed

This would look like a Communist-screw as the Soviet Union will gain less countries as satellite states and the Western powers get the entire Germany, maybe even back a democracy in Poland. Plus, the War might end earlier in Europe, which means that Great Britain might shift attention to the Pacific, and prevent Russian domination of Manchuria and North Korea.

Edit: It looks like I didn't read your post correctly. Oops.

1. Execute Operation Shingle as a long term project, rather than with Churchills fantasy of imeadiate & decisive victory in Italy.

2. Concentrate Operation Pointblank on fewer objectives, specifically the transportation and energy sectors. That would tie in better with the transportation camapigns that were sucessfull in Italy & NW Europe in the spring of 1944.

3. Figure out how to execute Op Anvil in April as originally planned. this is a tough one as the amphib assualt craft problem was nearly insoluble. If it can be made to happne then either a large part of the German army is in south France when Op Neptune is executed, and/or the Allies have the 6th Army Group already active in south France by June.

4. Have a better logistics plan in place for Op Overlord. This is maybe to much to expect SHAEF to see coming what is even today difficult to understand, but it certainly would have helped.

5. Close the Faliase pocket. Not as big a deal as many folks like to think, but 50,000 additional PoW of high quality officers & NCO from many top quality formations is better than the same escaping. The trade off may be a slightly weaker/slower thrust east and perhaps the Mons pocket or the south pocket not occuring.

6. Commit the resources of 21 Army Group to clearing the Scheldt shipping channel, vs Op Market-Garden. Getting the shipping channel to the port of Antwerp open a month earlier helps clear the Allied logistics backlog sooner. It also allows more of the US reinforcements to be disembarked in France on schedule. Having one or two more corps in the 12 Army Group in December can shut off the German ardennes offensive a lot faster & more effectively. Improve logistics and a earlier end to the Ardennes offensive also allows the Allied airforces to concentrate sooner against the German railroads. That had originally been started in October, but short deliveries of bombs & other items to the Allied tactical AFs in Europe, the weather, and Ardennes offensive disrupted/delayed it until late January or Febuary.

7. Support Devers proposal for closing to the upper Rhine & attempting a crossing by 6th AG in the late autum. Sounds better than the failed Achen/Reichwals battles.

Have someone realise that the bocage is perfect defensive terrain and then ensure that there are a lot more bulldozer tanks to smash through the hedges and embankments to flush out the defenders.

Cancel the Invasion of Italy.

Assign anybody but Mark Clark to command Fifth Army.

Assign almost anybody but Lucas (Truscott preferred) to command Shingle (if it goes ahead at all, with no Italian op).

Have Monty actually listen when Simmonds warns him about the need to clear the Scheldt.

Have Monty use experienced Canadians led the attack at Caen/Falaise, instead of the inexperienced ones he used OTL.

Have Ike, Monty, & Patton agree to use LVT(A)s with 75mm instead of DD Shermans.

Have the U.S. & British Armies realize they need more infantry replacements.

Have almost anybody but Monty assigned to command 21st AG (Slim?).
