Could the turret of a PzKpfw IV fit on a PzKpfw III chassis?

The late model PzKpfw III M with it's 50/60 gun was transformed into the PzKpfw IIIN with a 75/24 gun. This was a capable support tank but not a battle tank. I don't believe they could fit a 75/43 in the turret, so could they put a PzKpfw IV turret on the chassis? This could allow the Germans to still use the PzKpfw III as a battle tank, the Stub III as an assult gun easing German armament production.

Sure, but only by modifying the turret ring and really disrupting the production lines. Potentially they could also weaken the hull armor if the turret ring is too large, as happened with the T-34/85. The Germans did test out the Pz III K, but didn't think it was worthwhile.

Why make a smaller Pz IV when they already had the Pz IV? The STUG III was immediately necessary and the Pz III actually did still have some utility until 1943.

Better idea would be to force the respective builders to tender Pz-IV vs Pz-III against each other in a contest for single tank to mount KWK turret or Infantry Gun Turret.
