George HW Bush winning in 1992 is something that's been discussed quite a bit, but often the assumption is the Democrats take 1996 due to a desire for change after 16 years.

Could the GOP last 5 terms though? The economy of the mid-1990s would be at a high, with unemployment at 5.4% and GDP growth at 3.8%. George HW Bush would likely have Foreign Policy successes (intervening in Rwanda, the somali intervention not failing, the WTO taking off, Yugoslav Wars, etc) given that was his area of expertise.

With everything going well, why is it that the country wouldn't give the GOP a fifth term the way it did the Democrats post-FDR?

There's also the issue of who the GOP nominee would even be. I don't think it'd be Dole or Quayle. Kemp maybe?
