Could Rio de Oro be viable post-colonial state?

I've been managing my favourite maps and came across this old gem. It made me wonder, was there anyone who would push for Rio de Oro to be independent after WWII? Are there ways to create it other than splintering Morocco is some sort of civil war? Would the state outlined on the map would even be called Rio de Oro if it was independent?

What are you asking, exactly? That map is an alternate history. Rio de Oro is much larger in that map than the equivalent region OTL. Are you asking if that ATL Rio de Oro could function independently, or the OTL one?

Strange, I didn't get any notification that the thread has been responded to.

I meant the OTL Rio de Oro. That being said, it could well be that it needs to be at least as large on the above map to avoid being absorbed into Maroko.

If it were to be viable in OTL I imagine it would have to be larger. Could it potentially end up owning the Spanish Sahara? I mean as in modern Western Sahara, not on the map above.
