Could Persia have withstood the Islamic Invasion?

And if so what would have followed in its history at least in terms of religion? Could it have remained a zoroastrian region up until the present?

How about a stronger Sassanid Dynasty?
(Personally, Islam will still be there, but this time, its influence will be felt in the towns in the Gulf)

If they had avoided the war with the Byzantines or the general crap of the decade of civil war that proceeded it.

Yeh, this is a must. The Persians were factionalized and had many competing families after centuries of warfare with the Byzntines. They just needed to be a little stronger to hold on.

Yes. The Islamic Invasion happened at exactly the right time (or exactly the wrong time depending on your point of view) to succeed. Persia was exhausted and disunited and the Islamic armies had an improbably high number of military geniuses leading them. It was a perfect storm scenario.
