Could Kennedy have gotten sick, and avoided dieing?

I was thinking, if Kennedy had got sick, with the stomach flu early in November, could the assasination have been avoided resulting in major butterflies.

That would be a hilariously trivial way to make a profound change in American history, also, the word you are looking for is "dying", as in that person in the hospital is dying of tuberculosis.

Also JFK would probably be remembered as a pretty decent president who avoided a possible quagmire in Vietnam (the US would inevitably, without the intelligence of hindsight, get into a huge boondoggle conflict abroad and then be able to realize that ITTL Kennedy saved us from it) and quite possibly we would still see some fairly progressive reforms to healthcare and civil rights.

I don't understand the first paragraph of the first reply

I hear "stomach flu" a lot on US tv etc, but what is it?

Clinically it's known as gastritis, typically "stomach flu" involves a fever and frequent vomiting, it usually isn't an excessive sickness but it certainly gets you out of commission for a while if you've got it.

Yes, unless there was really some major conspiracy afoot to kill kennedy, Oswald's plans would have been thwarded. Hopefully in the months after planning to kill Kennedy his November '63 plot comes to the attention of authorities and thay place him under arrest.

It's a a gastrointestinal infection - gastroenteritis. The infection can cause diarrhea, vomiting, fever, cramps and headache, and usually lasts a couple of days.

You can still have JFK go to Dallas and not get shot, just have the Secret Service insist on a hardtop limo rather than the convertible JFK demanded. The back brace prevents him from crumpling to the floor when being shot the first time.

On everything else: there are no shortage of JFK lives threads, so use the Search function.

What kind of lame-ass dies of tuberculosis in this day and age? :p

Exactly what it sounds like- a stomach bug. You're usually sick for a week or few, maybe longer if your immune system is shit. Puking, shitting, feeling faint. It's not fun, but it'd keep Kennedy out of Dallas.

I have a taste for the old-fashioned "Consumption", surely a Hapsburg could appreciate no? :D

JFK had many health ailments (many of which were urologic, so I'll spare the details), but the last year of his life was probably the healthiest of his adult life due to the new medical regimen.

I'm half curious to know what they call stomach flu instead of flu...

Actually they do.

"Hey John did you hear about Mira? Home sick with the flu, yeah that sucks for her."
