Could Huey Long have won/spread his message?

So I've always been fascinated by Huey Long. His mixture of grand ambition, ruthlessness, authoritarianism, and actual good works is incredible, and I've never heard of a politician before or since having such massive control over his home state.

So what he survived, and was not assassinated? Assuming his presidential plans would still go through, could he beat Roosevelt? Would he be able succeed in one of his plans; to split the vote with a third party so that a Republican could win, then switch back to the Democrats to win in his second run?

Since you can't really have such utter control over the entire US as he had over Louisiana, would his governing style be changed if he became president? Would Long be impeached at one point?

I did a fair bit of research on Long's plans for Irrevocable Determination (link in sig), and no, he could not have beaten Roosevelt or even won many, if any, electoral votes outside Louisiana. What he did succeed in doing was pushing FDR to the left, notably with Social Security and several other cornerstones of the Second New Deal. Somewhere in between 8-12% of the popular vote, but that also squeezes the Republicans since all their potential '36 nominees are moderates (Landon) or TR-style progressives (Borah, Wheeler).
