Could Germany remain a monarchy after WWI?

Germany still looses the war but Wilhelm II stays in power or is at least propped up and used a puppet leader.

If the allies had put demands regarding Wilhelm II then it is likely that he would have remained as the Kaiser. It would seem however, more likely that he might have had to step down and be replaced by his son or Grandson.

Maybe if Germany made peace earlier. Such a peace might not be as bad as Versailles. This could result in a surviving monarchy although Wilhelm II will likely still be forced to abdicate in favour of his son who would then become Wilhelm III.

The other option is to have Germany win WW1. No American entry and slightly more successful Spring offensives might be enough to get a compromise peace.

In a sense, Germany remained a monarchy - and Hindenburg was the Ersatz-Kaiser. And H.'s final bid to restore full monarchy - led to Hitler... (because the conspirators failed to "find" a monarch that as acceptable to the German people as to themselves, i.e. no Bavarian).

Axtually, if the conspirators has acted early enough -1936-38 the monarchy would have been restored when Hitler was removed from Power.

Kaiser Wilhelm II is unlikely after 1917. However saving the monarchy would be easier. Conede morep ower to the Reichstag and abdication in favor of his grandson.

It is quite possible. The problem arose through intractability on both sides. Also a lighter Versailles would hel immensely.

Possibly

But it wouldnt' be Wilhelm the II. It doesn't take too much research to see that he was a loon and seen as such throughout the world. He was especially notorious for making inappropriate speeches and widely believed to be covering up for insecurities due to deformities.

If they had scored some better victories, and made peace before the US entered the war, it was possible they would have accepted with Wilehlm II's abdication. He might have been willing to accept as he turned into a bit of a wreck after the war had started and he pushed further and further into the sideline in favor of Hindenburg and Ludendorff.

Please excuse me if I'm wrong, but I understand that WilhelmII had a son and that son supported or at least sympathized with The Nazis.

Had the monarchy continued after WWI I doubt WilhelmII would have remained as Kaiser, that would probably have gone to his son. See above what I said about WilhelmII's son.

It would be interesting to see how Hitler would have done coming to power in a monarchist Germany. I think it depends on whether the other conditions that brought Hitler to power would still be as strong in TTL, conditions such as the economy, fear of Communism, etc.

He did have a son that supported the Nazi's early on. Crown Prince William III. He was an enthusiastic supporter early on, and felt that Hitler was the driving force that would make Germany great. He was never an official member of the nazi party though. The problem is that someone he was close to or friends with was killed during the night of long knives. This made him see the Nazi's in a new light and he withdrew from the public eye and didn't take much of a role in politics after that.

If Hitler had restored the monarchy and been a little more subtle it would have been interesting to see the results, but subtle and sharing that kind of power isn't something I can see Hitler doing.

Germany probably could have kept its monarchy after WW1, though Wilhelm II would probably have to abdicate. The monarchy would probably have its best chance of survival with a treaty closer to what Britain or America wanted.
