It almost prompted British intervention, and many Whig hardliners wanted a strong response. The problem was, of course, that neither France nor Britain could really afford another war so soon after the 7YW.

If the British did intervene, could a compromise be that Corsica is sold to Bourbon Naples instead? That way the French get their money back, the troublesome revolution is put down, the Bourbons still get the place, but it's under a smaller Bourbon power. What would be the results of such a sale?
