Corporatism in medieval Africa?

One place it might occur is in Ethiopia whose society used to be divided into a social hierarchy that consisted of ten classes - an Emperor seeking to unite Ethiopia finds significant opposition to such activities when he attempts to abolish them and instead decides to compromise by establishing a Shengo/Congress aimed at uniting these classes' interests in the name of Ethiopian solidarity, using this to further centralize power. This would probably happen after Gelawdewos' reclamation of Ethiopia from Adal so maybe Abba Bahrey's "History of the Galla" becomes an entirely different work aside from just outlining the history of the Oromo migrations, their Gadaa system and how Ethiopia could combat it. In fact, it's expanded with an emphasis placed on the unity of all Ethiopian classes after Bahrey notes how the Oromos tended to act as a collective whereas the Ethiopians tended to be more individualistic - these ideas could then be implemented during the reigns of either Sarsa Dengel or Za-Dengel.

Kingdom of Nri conquers large areas, without planning to do so, due to a series of defensive wars (see French Republic). A large area in which equality is encouraged and slavery is abolished, leads to non-ethnically-based groups having a larger amount of economic-political clout. Maybe we can add Ibadi Islam, "tolerant Puritans" as a corporate group of merchants that causes other groups to form.
