Contraceptive pills in 20's

But it was surely something MANY on right also pushed in.

It's weird, but at times, some peoples on opposed lines may agree. Social-conservative right, I can see pushing for this as well. Libertarians and such, not.

THe Prohibition is as much rightwing as left.

I'm not sure. As others have said the modern political views don't really fit 100 or so years ago, especially considering how much Progressives were supporting Prohibition IOTL, They are considered the ancestors of the modern left by the modern left while having a level of religious fervor equal to or even exceeding the modern religious right.

I am not sure such idea - that it is from religious 'left' - isn't also a rewritting of history from certain rightwingers, the ones who by example like the paint fascism as 'leftwing'... :rolleyes:

But the issue is the Progressive involvement in the dry laws push. Best way to see it would be the Prohibition folks being the ancestors of both the modern Far Left after secularizing and the modern Religious Right. As for fascism by the standards of US politics it's neither right or left since both the US left and right are part of the classical left in Euro politics since we have neither monarchists/fascists or communists/socialists to create Europe's left and right.

First, Fascism is *far right*. Rightwing and leftwing is a neutral kinda range of both, and liberals by example (US sense) are at max center left.

And the idea the prohibitionists are ancestors of far left sounds.. weird.

Statism =/= left, you know.

Not prohibitionists but the Progressives who were part of the range of folks supporting dry laws. Dry laws were just part of the many things Progressives supported just like allowing silver in the gold standard, trust busting and woman's suffrage. Susan B. Anthony is a good example of a Progressive who supported dry laws as is William Jennings Bryan who also has the extreme religious views.

Otl, contraceptive pills are late enough that Heinlein, writing Stranger in a Strange Land assumed that no such thing would be available 20 years after a Mars landing!

I was always confused by that, but i see now that the publication date for the book was 1961....

I need to read Stranger in a Strange Land. I enjoyed Starship Troopers. Kinda funny he wouldn't imagine the pill in the late '50s. I think the pill was doing clinical trials by the time the book was published.
