i was just going over French history for Anglo-American Rivalry, and what might be an interesting possibility came to mind: what if, with a POD in 1783, Napoleon decides to remain Consul, and France is never officially named an empire (it would be "Consulate of France" but would probably still be called "the French Empire" and be functionally similar). Napoleon's birth precedes the POD by 15 years, so his existence can't be affected by it, and i doubt that the POD (which has no geopolitical changes and is just where the important first sociological change is) would butterfly away his personality and rise to power
what does everyone think could be the general differences between a Consulate of France and a French Empire, if any?
