Constitutional Convention

"You want a document that recognizes and legitimizes slavery to tell us what a human is?"

Um, what do you mean? How does defining a Human as being one from the moment of conception, regardless of skin color, religion, or ethnic background have to do with slavery? The original Constitution didn't say anything, one way or another, about slavery.

A few changes I would try to get in would be:

1. A single six year presidency per individual.

2. Bills are single subject - no pork barreling.

3. How about considering the Constitution a compact between the states that must be renewed every 20-25 years.

4. Any three states may request a reconvening of a Constitutional convention.

Assuming I could use my real world knowledge, and butterfly effect and the like does not apply, I would:

1- Sneak in a clause defining a human as being from the moment of conception

2- Instead of a Federal Court, make the constitution one that is intrepreted by a jury. I argue at the convention that politically activist judges on whatever was made the highest court would, in the event of an unreasonable interpretation, not be appealable. The jury's descision can be appealed, and if a majority of state judges (on the state judiciary's highest courts) agree, then the issue will be settled with a referendum, with a majority in the region of 50-65% needed to override the descision.

3- Introduce STATE judicial supremacy, with a majority of the highest state courts overriding the federal court.

4- Make provisions saying explicitly that the state and federal governments BOTH have the right to purchase terrortory from other nations (on the justification that this could exploit colonial powers in times of weakness). Whoever pays for this transaction can decide what to do with the terrortory.

5- If I can, nip democracy in the bud by a stronger electoral college.

6- Try to get some references to God in the document.
