Constantinople dosen't fall

What if a couple fools didn't accidently let the Ottomans into Constantinople, and the siege was broken? Will the Byzantines survive for another century, many centuries, or be overrun soon after? I'm not putting the whole story of the fall of Constantinople here, you can look it up.:p

How is the siege broken?

I think too much credence is given to the unlocked sally port myth. Really, the Ottomans had the resources, time, and patience and it paid off.

If the gate is left closed, the city still falls. If the siege is aborted, its probably picked back up again. It's too late for the "Empire" at this point.

depdns if Mehemt dies and the Ottomans implode the city sputters on as a city state. As 1399 showed even when the Ottos were utterly destroyed by the Timurids and mired in civil war the Byzantines couldnt make much gains in the Balkans. SO what I see happening is Hungary probably expanding into the balkans and Constantinople falling under some european powers sphere. Will it survive yes but as a poor city state under latin influence.

Now on the other hand if Mehmet lives and/or the Ottos dont implode well a few months or even a couple yers later the city will be captured and nothing really changes.

I concur with the above statements. 1453 is waaaaay too late to save the Byzantines.

The best they can hope for at this stage is either (A) the rest of Europe dogpiles on the Ottomans, or (B) becoming an Ottoman vassal, but having to give up Constantinople and the surrounding area.

Given that the European states which could make a difference either have their own problems to deal with, or don't really care, A is not much of an option.
