Constantine the Great

I was thinking about how he moved to the east and founded the Eastern Roman Empire, is there any way he could have the capitol move to Carthage and set up a Southern Empire composing northern Africa, Egypt, and Sardinia, Corsica and Sicily?

This thread is better suited in Before 1900 forum. Very difficult. He didn't found the Eastern Roman Empire he was still emperor of the entire empire . The Roman Empire fractured in two pieces after the death Theodosius the Great. Constantinopol was founded there because of the strategic location(both military and economical).

I'm not sure how this scenario is relevant to this section however there are other scenarios regarding Constantine and the emergence of Christiniaty as the official religion of the Roman Empire. Constantine doesn't ally with the Christians? A more interesting one would have been if Constantine didn't back the Trinitarians over the Nicene Creed. Would Islam have emerged if Christian teaching hadn't diefed Christ but regarded Christ as a prophet?

I can't think of any strategic basis for doing that, unless the eastern half of the empire is already lost.

That might very well have made Islam stronger, as it would make it easier for conquered Christian populations to convert.

Or meant they weren't alienated from the rulers in Constaninople, and hence far more loyal to it and hostile to the small numbers of Arabs in the initial conquest. [Although this would probably mean more unrest for the empire in other areas which supported the Trinitarians].
