The Belgian Congo had undergone severe turmoil as a result of Congolese demands for immediate independence. What if the Thirty Year Plan for the Political Emancipation of Belgian Africa , which called for creating an educated group of Congolese to rule the country after independence, had been implemented? What would the Congo be like today compared to its neighbors and the world?

No imperialism in the first place is the best scenario, but prolonging the empires could have had some seriously positive effects on the colonial nations, such as creating economic ties, building up infrastructure, and attempting to rectify the wrongs done by educating and assisting in creating stable states.

The American brand of "get the fuck out now" during the Cold War caused more problems than it solved. Of course, colonialism itself caused these problems to begin with.

I think AH.com has come to the correct conclusion that it wasn't exactly a brilliant move to hand complete political, economic, and military control over to the Congolese at a time when there were less than a dozen university graduates in the entire country.
