Congo population without Belgium/Leopold/Colonial murders on an epic scale

Hypothetically, if the Congo goes to a different power who don’t loot it on anywhere near the scale of Belgium, what might its population look like?

It had ten million dead, though some of those were disease which might happen anyway? Perhaps without such brutality, the diseases won’t kill as many.

Given that the Congo has had its population increase roughly ten fold over the last 90 years, might adding another 5-10 million people to their population also grow ten fold, giving the Congo an extra 50-100 million people today? Might they be as populous as Nigeria?

I'm not too well-read on this subject, to be honest, but I'm given to understand that food was a serious issue. Even in famines, people straight-up dying of starvation is only part of the death toll, though, with a lot more deaths coming from diseases that you can't resist as well with your weakened immune system. So yeah, disease toll would probably be a lot lighter. Not sure about whether or not their population might plateau somewhere without the deaths, though.
