Confederate Presidency without Davis

For whatever reason, in TTL, Jefferson Davis is dead or uninterested in the job in 1861. Who would probably have taken the role of President for this slaveholding Republic without him??

Stephens seems the default but he may have gotten the VP role as a way to keep him out of the way.

Perhaps Toombs? this may change Fort Sumter and cause a slower path to war.

What about John Breckenridge? No longer the US VP as he was hounded out by the Senate, I think he'd be a good choice...

As he is from the state of Kentucky, Kentucky never officially seceded, and he was still the VP when the majority of Confederate states seceded and chose Davis or chose who would be President of the CSA.

You need to delay secession in the first place so Breckenridge/Kentucky can be included in the race for President
