Plainly there were elements in Japan who wanted to end the war. Equally plainly going via Stalin was not a clever tactic.
Suppose some kind of Conditional Surrender without the use of nuclear weapons had been agreed but the actual bomb itself was produced and tested.
It occurs to me that an earlier end to the War would likely have given the West influence over united Korea. I do not know about the effect on China.
Would there be more or less fear of 'the bomb' if it had never actually been used.
When and how would its existence have been anounced?
