March 18th 1981:

Top Executives from DRI receive Phone Calls from IBM, a meeting is scheduled for the next day between the two companies to discuss IBM getting an Operating System from DRI for their upcoming Personal Computer, the IBM PC, this would be the first Personal Computer ever created by IBM and would begin cause a shift from Mainframe Computers to Personal Computers that makes the IBM that we know today.

March 19th 1981:

Executives from Digital Research and IBM agree to use Digital Researches upcoming CP/M-86 as a Operating System for the IBM PC so as long IBM agreed to pay a Royalty Licensing Plan which IBM agreed to, this deal would lead to IBM becoming one of the biggest PC Manufacturers in the World.

August 12th 1981:
IBM PC is released to the public, it becomes one of the biggest commercial successes in Computer History selling 2 Million units within its lifespan of support

August 16th 1981:
Mircosoft releases MS-DOS to select hardware manufacturers it is a huge commercial failure along with the computers that it was released with, with many users citing that it frequently crashes and makes many PCs unusable and unable to turn on, this results in many lawsuits for Mircosoft citing Fraud and many other reasons.

Problem #1: Until 3.x (when it moved off of ROM and onto hard drive space), MS-DOS was OEM only, and NEVER sold directly to end users by Microsoft.

Problem #2: Microsoft still has the Xenix UNIX distribution (Based on AT&T System V)

Also, you've just butterflied away MSX, and made the IBM PC even easier to clone.
