How feasible would this be: In some smoke filled backroom during all the fighting in 1912, someone works out a compromise. Maybe this is during the GOP convention, when Roosevelt was still battling for the nomination, maybe its after he splits off, and party bosses realize he'll probably split enough states to cost them the election. Either way, the proposal is to back Roosevelt, in exchange for Taft being nominated to the Supreme Court on the next open seat (which, if all else goes according to history, would be in 1914). Perhaps also a slate of nominees for any other openings on the Court (which would be likely one more, assuming Roosevelt doesn't run in 1916). The Progressives get their man, and the Conservatives get 1-2 justices.
