Communists win elections in Western Europe

in 1946 in France the Communist party won 182 seats the most of any party and went into government with the MRP and SFIO, in 1948 in Italy the Popular Democratic Front (the Communists and Socialists) nearly won the election, is there any way for the Communists of France to win or at lest push out the MRP and rule with the SFIO and for the PDF to win in Italy and if those two things happen what happens in Europe? will the US try and over throw those governments by force? will those governments keep holding elections? will they go fully pro-soviet?

The Communists would probably have to win a majority in France, the socialists weren't willing to work them as a junior partner. If the CIA hadn't funded a large anti-communist campaign in Italy, the PDF would probably have won. Perhaps no Marshall Plan and a generally more isolationist US could be the PoD. I doubt they would become Soviet stooges the moment they cam to power though, in France especially. We could see an earlier birth of Eurosocialism (albeit Marxist-Leninist in this scenario).

NATOA would never really get off the ground in this scenario, which has its own implications for the Cold War as well.
