Communist Mexico?

I have been thinking considering the deteriorating situation in Mexico during the early 20th Century there could possibly be a Communist revolution. There is no doubt the conditions are ripe, but how would this have affected the world?

While it's possible, I think it's slightly more likely you'd see an Anarcho-Syndicalist type deal which would evolve into a system of federalism and two-level* socialism.

*That is having both a central planning system along with decentralized workers associations/unions working together like how you have instances of the Federal and State governments working together in the U.S.

I dont see a communist revolution erupting in Mexico, however there just so happened to be a revolution in Mexico in the 19teenteens. There was a socialist movement during the time and and a very small communist movement. You could see a socialist republic of Mexico, with the communists as a member of a coalition, but thats the best you'll get. Mexican society was far too split to form a true communist revolution, even in a Russian or Chinese vein.

America would intervene so hard- imagine Palmer and McCarthy with a Socialist southern neighbor of the size of Mexico. The Marines would be going to the Halls of Montezuma yet again.

You need an earlier POD than the 20th century, which is why you chose the right forum, fortunately, for this.

With that in mind, the key would be making sure Mexico had a military that could force the US to back off after such a revolution. If one does that... well, it could work out.
