Commonwealth of Baranof

The Slattery Report proposed the US taking in Jewish refugees from Nazi Germany - specifically Germany and Austria - and sticking them in parts of Alaska. Most folks living in Alaska weren't big on the idea, and only three towns endorsed the proposal.

The settlements were mainly to be on the island of Baranof and Matanuska-Susitna Valley. What if Congress just opted to separate Baranof island from Alaska and stick a large number of Jews there? Ultimately, Baranof's entry into the union is delayed due to a mix of antisemitism and population-related concerns and Baranof remains a Puerto Rico-style Commonwealth rather than ever becoming a state.

Similar to the Yiddish Policeman's union. Wilson's son in law proposed a disability/african american homeland in alaska.

William Macdoo, proposed in congress, an act to settle and repatriate our colored and crippled citizens, April 21, 1923. Congressional record
