Comedy / entertainment what-if: Victor Borge meets Spike Jones

OK, this may have some of the younger members saying, "who?". But google both of those guys and check them out on Youtube. Worth a look.

Anyhow, by 1950, Victor Borge had been in the US for ten years and was already well established as a classical pianist and comedian (not bad for someone who arrived with just $20 in his pocket and not knowing a word of English). At the same time, Spike Jones was at the top of his game, transmuting classic music into a Dixieland style with addition of cowbells, auto horns, breaking glass, gunshots, and nearly any other sound effect you could name, including hiccups and burps. So...on the one hand you have Borge who could play (figuratively and literally) any serious classical piano piece for laughs, and Jones who could pervert any classical piece. What might they have done in collaboration? I suspect they'd have had audiences of the late Truman / early Ike years rolling in the aisles.

Can't imagine a collaboration, but, I was absolutely nutso over both of them individually, back in the day.

I suspect that any attempt at close collaboration would not have gone well. Borge was more subtle than Jones, and thus would have been overwhelmed. I can, however, imagine programs in which Borge performed early in the evening, while the audience was more attentive, while Jones put on his show latter, when members of the audience had been somewhat desensitized.
