Hey all,
I’m currently in the planning stages of a timeline following the implications of England/Britain taking Spain’s role in the exploration of the Americas, and I’ve hit a bit of a snag. Long story short; I want my timeline to feature an early eighteenth century Britain that has a constitutional arrangement similar to that of OTL, and which is capable of maintaining over a hundred years of near-constant warfare with the French, as in OTL. But, given the influx of Mexican and Peruvian gold and silver, I can’t see a political outcome for England/Britain that does not involve the establishment of an absolute monarchy, that fears its position too much to dare to mobilise the country to the same degree as OTL’s governments. This is annoying, because I would prefer to write a timeline about an English Columbus, not a Royalist England or Non-Revolutionary France (for why, absent the fiscal pressures caused by the wars with England/Britain, would there be a revolution in France?).
So, people of AH.com, do you see a way for me to have what I want? Or do I need to grit my teeth and accept an absolutist Britain and all that goes with it?
