Colonized China

Well, Japan OTL basically was fighting with Russia over Manchuria. They had already seized Taiwan, and in WWII had the goal of also annexing Hainan Island. OTL, they also had sought to gain Shandong, a former German protectorate.

The Soviet Union tried repeatedly to take Xinjiang, but for various reasons failed. They also turned Mongolia (until 1911, a part of China) into a satellite state, but never annexed it. It's possible to have a larger Mongolia if it gets Inner Mongolia.

Tibet spent some time wandering in and out of the British sphere of influence, but that was mostly due to its strategic importance. Annexation, likely to India, was unlikely to be in the cards. Britain also established spheres of influence over other parts of Southern China, as had France on the Indochina-Chinese border.

Germany took Shandong as a protectorate, as mentioned above, and Britain and Portugal had their own small concessions in China.

I suppose if you get formal colonies, these would be direct annexations, in Yunnan and Guangxi to France, and perhaps an expanded Hong Kong concession in the South East.

What was left was the stuff in the middle of China that the Great Powers either had no interest in or simply never got around to exerting influence over.
