Coloney of Japan

Japan was one of the few places to not get colonized by a western power, but what if things were different and they were? Who would have been the most likely candidate to colonize them? What would have happened to Korea, Taiwan and the Ryukyu Islands? What impacts would this have on the Japanese people?

Russia would get Ezo (Hokkaido) and the Kuriles, Taiwan and the Ryukyus would stay with whatever dynasty was in power in China, Korea would be an independent China-aligned monarchy...

possibly the Dutch or Portuguese would get Kyushu (both had missionary and trade posts on the island IIRC).... but with Shikoku and Honshu there could be some fighting amongst the British and French (and maybe Germans too) over who gets what.

If I remember correctly the Dutch pushed the Portuguese out of Japan on at least one occasion, and the Dutch were the only Europeans allowed to trade in Japan at one point.
