First up in the raiding wars was the ACC who the object of an intense bidding war between ABC/ESPN, CBS, FOX, TBS/TNT/WB and DirecTV.
DirecTV offered the most money but the least coverage and ABC/ESPN was chosen over the TBS/TNT/WB even through they offered more money.
The contract was "slightly more" money then the ECC contract but a rider in the contract gave a bump in payments if certain schools joined the ACC.
Miami, Florida St, and Maryland were the first targets of the ACC with each school promised a premium over the life of the contract.
The Big 10 was going hard after Penn St to make it the 14nth school in the conference but they wanted them in before they negotiated their next contract to maximize their leverage.
The SEC was set but it wouldn't be upset if Vanderbilt decided to go after easier game and with the no raiding pact the obvious conference choice of the ACC was not in the cards.
