Except Trotsky had different economics than Stalin, and also, while he had more aggressive foreign policy, it wasn't that aggressive. He wasn't an idiot. He actually did quite well in warfare during the 2nd Russian Revolution.

Actually, there's evidence that Stalin merely adopted Trotsky's economic principles once he was exiled from the Soviet Union. Trotsky did agree on the collectivization and need for industrialization.
 
Oh? Considering Trotsky still was in favor of keeping democratic centralism, those would've proceeded differently.

More importantly, I would argue Trotsky would've been a better manager of these affairs. Not to mention that left Communism means these would've been done differently.
