Cold War continues......

OK so possibly a little ASB knowing how critical a state the USSR was back in the late 80s but lets imagine for a moment on how this has affected various programmes and organisations, for a starter...RN had as an objective a force of 20 SSN's, plus hopes for at least 12 Upholders (now the RCN Victorias), 50 escorts, plus around 50 Mine warfare. The 3 CVS replaced in time by something similar but bigger. HMS Ocean and the LPD's still happen but the auxiliary landing ships are more LSL than LSD. Fleet Air Arm would be flying probably more than 70 Merlins and possibly the first NH90s.
OTL- RN is planning 2 CVF (1 operational after a fashion and one err....), 4 SSBN, around(hum) 6-10 SSN, around 20 escorts, around 20 mine warfare, 3 amphibs plus 4 LSD's, Fleet Air Arm- 44 Merlin, 28 Wildcat planned.

RAF? Probably no C17's, instead still fixated on tactical nuclear strike and lots of updated Tornados backed up by Typhoons and Harriers. A12's planned to replace the Tornado fleet (Yup its likely the US Navy A12 program would have continued). Force level probably 5 Tornado ADV, 13 Tornado GR4, 8 Typhoon and 3-poss 4 Harrier sqdns, 4 Chinhook and 5 other helicopter sqdns, 4 MPA sqdns, couple ISTAR sqdns (CASTOR definietly in service), etc. RAF Regt still probably with a GBAD role as well as field/force protection.

OTL 3 sqdns Tornado, 5 sqdns Typhoon, several ISTAR sqdns incl 1 with Reaper, 1 C17 sqdn, etc.

UK Army- still based on 2 forward armoured divisions but with Chally 2 and Warriors plus AS90 and MLRS. 1 support division (3rd) with 19 Brigade in Colchester, 2nd Infantry Div in UK with 24th Airmobile Brigade which still exists. UK RDF forces made up from 5th Airborne Brigade and 3 Commando Brigade RM. In terms of numbers probably more like 100 Apache than 67, twice as many AS90s and Chally 2's. Chally 1's still in UK service in reserve.
Numbers? 160,000 army, 55,000 RN, 90,000 (ish) RAF?

Pick your favourite nation and project forwards......
