We are all likely familiar with the basics of the Common Law of England. Could something similar be compiled in 19th century America, codifying the unwritten code of ethics that pioneers and frontiersmen of the American West abided by into an "American Common Law"?

Examples of the "Code of the West" are things like:

  • Don't pry into another persons past.
  • Help anyone in need, even a stranger or an enemy.
  • Drinking on while on duty is grounds for dismissal and blacklisting.
  • No profanity near women or children.
  • Treat others as you would have them treat you.
