Closer Franco-British relation

So I was wondering how it is possible and what pod is required to have France and Britain to be closer or as close as OTL France and Germany. The pod should be after WWI if possible.

France does not sign the 1940 armistice with Germany and remains in the war until the final victory. In the interim, the French government would be so reliant on the British that by the time the war ends they might effectively be a single government.

Suez, in its aftermath the British come to the same conclusion as France that America is not to be trusted and decides to increase military co-operation with the French. You would need someone other than Macmillan to be PM. There were certainly plenty of Tories such as Enoch Powell and Peter Thorneycroft who were quite anti-American in outlook.

Maybe something like this:

Downing Street Declaration

The 2 November 2010 Downing Street declaration by President Sarkozy and Prime Minister Cameron. The elements of this declaration are as follows.

Defence and Security Cooperation Treaty

The purpose of this is to develop co-operation between British and French Armed Forces, the sharing and pooling of materials and equipment including through mutual interdependence, the building of joint facilities, mutual access to each other’s defence markets, and industrial and technological co-operation.

Nuclear Stockpile Stewardship

Collaboration on the technology associated with nuclear stockpile stewardship in support of both countries independent nuclear deterrent capabilities, including a new joint facility at Valduc in France that will model performance of nuclear warheads and materials to ensure long-term viability, security and safety – this will be supported by a joint Technology Development Centre at Aldermaston in the UK.

Operational Matters

It was decided to sign a Letter of Intent, creating a new framework for exchanges between UK and French Armed Forces on operational matters.

Industry and Armaments

It was decided to direct the UK-France High Level Working Group to strengthen its work on industrial and armament cooperation.

Speaking of the Suez crisis
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Commonwealth_of_Nations#Applicants

At the time of the Suez Crisis in 1956, in the face of colonial unrest and international tensions, French Prime Minister Guy Mollet proposed to British Prime Minister Anthony Eden that their two countries be joined in a "union". When that proposal was turned down, Mollet suggested that France be allowed to join the Commonwealth, with "a common citizenship arrangement on the Irish basis.

It could had been interesting to start a separate topic about this. ;)

It's far too late for what I am looking for.
