Clinton Waits

Carter apparently wanted a rematch against Reagan in '84, but fortunately that idea was kiboshed by leading Democrats.

A Reagan v. Carter rematch in 1984 would be really interesting - at least, the campaign would be. Unfortunately, I think this is how the map would turn out:

genusmap.php

(R) Pres. Ronald Reagan (R-CA) / Vice Pres. George Bush (R-TX) - 535 EVs, 60% PV
(D) Former Pres. Jimmy Carter (D-GA) / ??? - 3 EVs, 38% PV

If Carter's going to try to pull a Grover Cleveland, 1984 is way too early. Also, I have no idea who he would choose as his running mate - the idea of him keeping Walter Mondale is intriguing, but I doubt he would.

Carter '88 would be interesting, but even then, I can see him losing to Bush in a bigger landslide than Mike Dukakis.

Carter '92? I would love it.:D But I still don't know if he would win. What I do know is that '92 is the last time he can run - I think anytime after 1992 would be too late for a Carter comeback, but I could be wrong.

EDIT

And that's even if Carter would be nominated, and even that's in doubt.

Fixed. Anyway, the Democrats would probably be happy to let him run again as their sacrificial lamb.
