Clinton: Forget that I got a BJ, there's a war in Africa!

Saw Blood Diamond tonight. One line stood out "Everything here's going to hell, and all anyone's talking about is blowjobgate". I was thinking, "Wouldn't that have been a great way to distract people?" Think about it, Bush used the gay marriage issue to talk distract from the Iraq war, why wouldn't it work the other way around? Instead of using trivial sexual crap to distract from a war, why not use a war to distract from trivial sexual crap? I'm sure Clinton could have pulled it off, they didn't call him "slick willy" for nothing.

From the ATL Republicans: "I cannot authorize force in (insert african nation here) because, Mr. President of the Senate, the president has been having sex with his secretary." :D

Look at Rwanda: no one wanted to go back because of Somalia, and because they were all watching the OJ Simpson trial. And besides that, what did they have that we wanted? Yes, it was terrible that all those people died, and were dying. But it's really hard to make the US (or any country for that matter) do something purely out of enlightened sentiment.

Had Clinton wanted to do anything about Rwanda, or Sierra Leonne (there were peacekeepers there from the Royal Irish Rangers of the British Army), then he'd have had to get through a very isolationist Congress.

To be honest, the 90s showed that Clinton was much more likely to use the military than the Republican party was. Kosovo, Bosnia, Haiti, airstrikes on Sudan, Afghanistan, Operations Southern and Northern Watch.
