Claudius Gothicus was well on his way to ending the third century crisis when he died in 270, and his successor Aurelian finished the job. He crushed the goths at Naissus, hence "Gothicus." He showed a lot of promise, and if he did not die of the plague could be looking forward to a reign of rebuilding the empire from the ashes of the third century, as Aurelian had started to do, and Diocletian finished.
So what if he didn't die of the plague in 270.
