The easy answer would be that without the radical (for the time) teachings of the NoI Ali/Clay might have decided to accept his short stint in the US Army and not had his boxing license suspended and titles stripped. I imagine his service would have been much like the time other famous draftees served. A nice short service on a US Army boxing team in Germany or something like that. But I doubt it. Ali was going to be involved somehow in the anti-war movement, I just can't seem him pulling a Elvis.
If anything I think Ali/Clay wouldn't have been nearly as interesting is he hadn't made the choices that he did. But maybe he wouldn't have become the super a-hole jerk that acted so horrible to Joe Frazier.
But then again Frazier feels that maybe Ali's current suffering is karma getting back at Ali for his past bad actions.
