City/town named after Hitler

Effects of city or town named after Hitler? Either in Germany or Austria/Ostmark.

No practical effects on how war ends but psychological. Wallies/RA push hard to get it for that reason, Germany defends it at all costs.

Just a thought.

TV: The capital of North Dakota is named after what German leader?
HOMER: Hitler!
MARGE: Hitler, North Dakota?

I could not resist. :p

Well, Wolfsburg was originally called KdF-Stadt. The townsfolk hated the name so much (since it sounded generic) that during the American occupation they changed the name to that of the nearby castle.

I'm sure that if there was a city/town named after Hitler, if everything else happened as in OTL, that the name would be promptly changed post-war.

i think a city or a town is 2 big maybe a building, like the adolftoriam, its possable he could have been the archatict and designed it in the old days.

i don't think there would be a town named after Hitler, the town of kitchener, ontario was origonally called berlin, ontario. but in 1916 out of fear or hatred for the germans they changed the name of the town.

Mhm,
Berlin = Germania
But what city could be renamed after Hitler:
Nürnberg to Hitlerstadt because the Reichsparteitag of the NSDAP always was there.
München to Hitlerstadt because it is the birthplace of the Nazi-Movement.
Unlikly Braunau to Adolf-Hitler-Stadt because Hitler like Stalin wasn't very found of his origins and family.

edit: And Nürnburg was nearly totally destroyed by the allied because it was seen as a center of the nazi movements.

I suspect it would be in Ost-ost-ost mark Hitlerstadt, the city on the Volga formerly known as Tsaritsyn. It had some funky name under the brief Soviet rule....:):)

By the times the Allies have boots on the ground in Germany, it doesn't matter a lot, both pushing hard or defending at all costs are relative. OTOH, I wouldn't want to be a resident of the town as far as the strategic bombing campaign is concerned. I can figure somebody deciding what a splendid propaganda opportunity it would be to raze it down.
