Chuck Robb still in the US Senate?

With all his scandals, Robb not only won in 1994 (thanks to the obvious problems with his opponent Oliver North...) but actually did quite respectably against George Allen in 2000, losing by only a bit worse than 52-48. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_Senate_election_in_Virginia,_2000 Suppose Robb had won in 2000--say, Allen has a "macaca moment' six years early? In 2006 the Democrats did not lose a single seat they held in either house of Congress, and 2012 was also a good year for Democrats in Virginia...

Robb is a rather interesting figure - though he really wouldn't have won in 1994 if it hadn't been for the fact that Oliver North was the Republican candidate and had an Independent Republican running. I suppose if he scraped home in 2000 he would be quite safe in 2006 and 2012. I think he could have a Chairmanship or Ranking Minority Membership of an important committee - plus he was a moderate to conservative DLC member.

I can see him chairing the Foreign Relations Committee after Kerry steps down, or the Budget Committee before that (he was on both during his tenure in the Senate). He would certainly be one of the more moderate-to-conservative Democrats in the Senate, particularly on fiscal issues (he voted for every item of the Contract with America).

Continuing my own timeline:

And in 2018 Senator Robb is heavily favored to win a sixth term, polls showing him well ahead of Corey Stewart...
