Can anyone help me date the periods of Göbekli Tepe? The wiki article and just about every other online source I can find are all highly contradictory. My library doesn't have any books on the subject (or seemingly anything related to the ancient world).
I do know that the site has three "occupation layers," stratums III, II, and I (listed from oldest to most recent). Some sources say Stratum III began around 11,000 BC (13,000 BP) while others place its beginning at 9,000 BC (11,000 BP). Where Stratum II starts is ambiguous, with some sources claiming it does not begin until 7500 BC (9500 BP) despite the common claim that the entire site was filled soon after 8000 BC (10,000 BP). And then you have stratum III, a layer of agricultural remains, which is dated sometime after the site was filled.
I would be forever indebted to any archaeologists, historians, or other knowledgeable forumites who could solve this conundrum for me. Even if you can't help there, feel free to discuss the site in this thread
