Christmas WI: Worse Eggnog Riot?

In the late 1820s, a bunch of West Point cadets went crazy because some decided to smuggle whiskey to make eggnog for a Christmas party. Among the rioters - who basically got away scot-free - was future CSA President Jefferson Davis. So, WI the Eggnog Riot became much worse than it was? Could it have led to Jeff Davis being expelled from West Point, among others?

Well, obviously, the butterflies would probably lead to the CSA not forming as in OTL, but maybe a worse Eggnog Riot could make discipline at West Point more severe. The riot could have scarred some of the cadets, but based on the riot alone West Point could completely eliminate the alcohol ration given to the cadets. Not that drinking was more or less banned anyway, but still.

I think what this really affects is the Mexican American War and the availability of nice young officers to lead that big old army.
