Christmas in July

I once read that the Romans taxed in the month of Quinctilis which later became the month of July. It stands to reason then if Mary and Jospeh were on their way to Bethlehem to be taxed that it wasn't in December.

So what if this catches on the Christian church grabs a summer pagan holiday to slap their name on and claims that is when their holy savior was born.

How is western culture changed as a result?

I can't see a whole lot of change meself besides the minor cultural differences of that ATL. I think we'd definetly see some sort of Winter festival in response to the Pagan festivals around at the time. I can't think of one unless the Church installs 'It's great to be a Christian Day' mid-winter.

According to modern studies Christ was born in 12 March 3 BC (probably 4 BC) ... 25 December was chosen by Church in 4th century to replace the Roman Pagan Feast of Sol Invictus...

Mithra was born on December 25. The Roman holiday Satralala , Saturn's day, which I spelled wrong, was also during late December. Christ was born sometime in the spring, but as the Christianity acquired the other eastern-mystery cults and tried to appeal to mainstream Romans compromises had to be made.

More accurately, they celebrated the Nativity on Dec 25 to give Christians an alternative to the pagan celebrations. There is no evidence that it was a 'compromise'.

that thread rememember me those horrible wall-mart how bout some old lady keep saying stuff like "We need a winter Holiday, we couldn't without a winter holiday" ( I swear it's a real ad)

Perhaps this is why Christmas is not emphasized as much in the Eastern Orthodox Churches, where Easter is the big holiday.
